Buick introduced a compact car in 1961. This Buick Special had a 3.5 litre aluminium V-8 that was also fitted to Oldsmobiles and used to the modern day by Rover. They sold a total of 110,790 of them in 1962, with just under half being the Deluxe model. The Deluxe model had additional accessories, such as an ashtray for rear passengers and carpet on the floor.
