The Karmann-Ghia was built in great numbers. The majority were coupes. The cars were built on unmodified Beetle running gear that were constantly improved. The Karmann-Ghia convertible was launched two years after the coupe, in 1957.
The Karmann-Ghia appears to be a smaller version of the Chrysler d'Elegance concept car designed by Virgil Exner in 1953 but the head of Ghia, Luigi Segre, claims the honour. Practical Classics April 2004 - Featuring Buyers Guide VW Karmann available. Click here to view in our shop.
