A larger engine version of the Beetle was the VW 1500. It had a rear mounted air-cooled engine of 1,493 cc that produced 45 bhp. The boxer engines in these cars were so flat it could be fitted under the boot space. The VW 1500 were available as saloon, coupe, and estate car.
