Alvis ditched its staid, old fashioned image in 1956 and clothed its new model with modern coachwork styled by Swiss coachbuilder, Graber. Graber bodies had already been used on other British models such as the Bentley Mk VI to great effect. The new Alvis looked sleek, distinguished and modern, the bodies were built under licence by a Loughborough based company called Willowbrook.
In 1958 the TA108G was superseded by the new (and similar) TD21 model which had a body built by Park Ward of Rolls-Royce and Bentley fame. The new TD21 had better trim and an up-rated 120bhp engine. In 1962 the TD21 gained Mk II status and came with built-in fog lamps and all-round disc brakes. Production of the TD21 Mk II continued until 1963.
Dampers on these cars are all Luvax hydraulic, with dashboard adjustment and also pump on rear spring to stiffen at speed.
Front leaf spring is transverse, with lower wishbones, giving independent front suspension.
Steering: Marles O Type
Max Speed: 89mph but increased with development, later ones did 97mph.
