The 1275GT first appeared in 1969 as a replacement for the Mini Cooper, (although due to demand the Cooper S remained in production until 1971) and carried on the theme set by the Cooper series of Mini's of offering "pocket rocket" performance in a small car.
The 1275GT made use of the new, square fronted Mini Clubman bodyshell and MK3 Mini mechanical parts. The engine came from the Cooper S in 59bhp, single carb from and offered a 90mph top speed and the luxury of servo assisted front discs. From mid-1971 the 1275GT received 12" wheels, improved brakes, fuel tank and Dry-cone suspension.
Production of the 1275GT lasted until 1980 when it was discontinued to make way for the Mini replacement, the Metro (!).
