Triumph launched its curious Mayflower in 1949, billed as being an "economy" saloon. The Mayflower had the appearance of a scaled down Triumph Renown, its two door saloon body sported an upright radiator and elegant luggage compartment at the rear. An updated Standard 10 engine was used to power the Mayflower and used a new alloy head for improved performance.

Modern features for the Mayflower included hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension, this was blended with a well appointed interior which used traditional materials such as leather and wood. The Mayflower stayed in production until 1953 with over 35,000 examples being built for both home and export markets.
