By 1961 the Triumph Herald was in need of a more powerful engine and so a new 1147cc (1200) engine was introduced on all models. The Herald 1200 was an improvement to the original 948cc cars and also featured an improved clutch and the option of front disc brakes.
As before the Herald 1200 was available in a variety of different body styles which included saloon, convertible, estate, and coupe. The coupe style was soon dropped from the range and this model is now very hard to find. Production of the Herald 1200 continued alongside the more powerful 13/60 until 1970.
