Triumph GT6 Mk1 I have owned this car for over ten years and it was VERY tired when I got it. Over the past eight months, I have nearly completed a detailed full restoration of this car. Every nut and bolt has been removed from the chassis and all parts have been powder coated in high gloss black. The body work has been completed and is painted in the original Signal Red; Triumph paint code 32. The motor has been completely rebuilt. Upgrades include the addition of a performance camshaft, drilled tappets, an oil by-pass routed to the back of the head for better lubrication of the rocker arm shaft, stainless steel tubular exhaust manifold ("Headers in the U.S.A.) and an oil cooler. This car was originally provided with a standard four speed transmission. I have opted to upgrade to the overdrive transmission, and have found original style switches and wiring to facilitate the installation. I had installed the motor and transmission and had it running, but was unable to disengage the clutch. It turns out the the carrier I was provided for the clutch release bearing was incorrect. I have had to remove the whole lot to replace it. What a bunch of work! I'll receive the new one soon, and all will be well again. The interior is yet to be installed, however, I have had the seats torn down, new foam installed and re-upholstered. The dash top pad was cracked and in very poor condition. That too has been re-conditioned. All rubber components have been replaced, including body/chassis pads, door waist seals, all window seals (incuding the difficult front quarter windows), furflex, etc. All interior panels have been purchased and received, but will not be installed untill the new headliner is in. After that, new carpet is to be installed throughout. The original dashboard was rotted and was de-laminating, both the finish and the wood. It was not worth restoring. I have installed a new dash made of solid black walnut, and it is beautiful. All instrumentation was dis-assembled and cleaned, then re-installed. It's looking very nice! All restoration work shall be completed within 4 weeks time, then, it's back to standard maintenance...after all...work on a Triumph is never really ended! Pictures will be added at a later time. |
