Following the success of the original "Frogeye" Austin Healey Sprite BMC decided to revamp and expand the range in 1961. The new range now included a badge engineered MG Midget version as well as the identical Mk II Sprite. The main changes were confined to the cars styling, the distinctive "Frogeye" front making way for a modern, squarer design.
Improvements included a more practical exterior boot-lid - Mk I Sprites had no boot lid, luggage had to be loaded behind the front seats!. Front disc brakes were standard and wire wheels were a popular factory option. From 1962 the Sprite Mk II featured a more powerful 1098cc A-Series engine, which introduced improved performance.
