The quest for greater power also affected Bond and the motors became bigger so that the Bond 875 of 1965 appeared with a Hillman Imp power unit instead of a sputtering two-stroke engine.  Bond took the easy root and installed the Hillman engine, complete with gearbox and suspension.  Drive was no longer through a single front wheel but through both rear wheels.  Bond ceased making cars with two-stroke engines in 1966 and a three-wheeler could be ordered with a Triumph Spitfire engine in 1967.  Bond cars gave the top speed as 79 mph (126 kph) but this must surely have been measured over a dead straight road with no side wind with the car weighing a mere 858 lb (390 kg).

Further Information:  The top speed was far higher than that given by manufacturers. 90 MPH was more normal.  Acceleration with a 8cwt body and Hillman imp engine beat most sports cars of the day.
