Bristol used the old 1,971 cc BMW engine up to 1958 but with the Bristol 406, they introduced the 2,216 cc six-cylinder engine.  The 406 was a 404 with a more highly-powered engine.  Overdrive and disc brakes were standard equipment.  The 406 had a 5,130 cc motor that produced 253 bhp.
