The 356A has much improved, more mature look than the original, almost delicate looking 356. Main recognition points are the small air vents near the side lamps and a curved windscreen. The front suspension was revamped with the addition of a steering damper. As well as these changes an improved engine of 1582cc was now fitted, producing 60bhp in standard tune or 75bhp in the "Super" model.
These pretty little sports cars were now capable of 100mph top speeds, but they were still considered as expensive "foreign" cars here in the conservative UK market. Production ran from 1955-1959, 21000 cars were produced in total.
