Citroen Ami 8

This Ami was bought new in Exeter by my father in 1972.  He drove it until 1995, when he was 89, and then gave it to me.  I have owned and cherished it ever since.  All Amis rusted badly, but this one has always been garaged and has done only 83000 miles from new.  Various panels have been replaced over the years, but most of the car is original - including the engine which has never been overhauled, the interior, even to the headlining, the upholstery and the carpets on the floors and the chassis.  It has a Trafficlutch - an additional, centrifugal, clutch which disengages the drive at below 1000rpm, thus enabling starts, stops and gear selection to be made without using the ordinary clutch when the car is stationary - very useful in traffic. The 602cc engine (the same as fited to the 2CV and the Dyane) propels the car at up to 75mph and the suspension is very soft, allowing huge body roll but sticking the car to the road in amazing fashion.  The seats are soft and haqve plenty of room for four adults. So few Amis remain now that most people don't know what they are seeing, but with it's "pagoda" roof and tiny size it does attract a lot of attention.  The photo shows it on display at a Classic Car Show at Alexandra Palace, but I drive it in ordinary use more than showing it.
