After Citroen took over the Italian firm of Maserati the Citroen SM or Citroen Maserati deluxe sporting coupe was created, combining the technical strengths of both companies.  Maserati produced the 2,675 cc V-6 engine with four overhead camshafts that developed 170 bhp, while the suspension, steering, and disc brakes were of Citroen origin.

The letters SM stood for Sa Majeste in the same way DS meant Deesse or goddess.  This coupe was an example of what Italian and French technology could offer and that was quite something!
