In a final but misguided attempt at survival, Facel installed first a Volvo engine then an Austin-Healey power unit in the small car. The cars had no more teething problems but the recovery had come too late. Daninos was forced to shut the factory in 1964. If he had ignored the press criticism and remained with American engines, perhaps his cars would still be made today.
