The Austin alliance paved the way for sharing of resources for a sports tourer, and this resulted in the supply of Austin A70 chassis for a new Jensen Interceptor and Jensen-supplied bodies for a smaller sibling Austin A40 Sports. Cabriolet and saloon (actually a 2-door hard-top coupé) models of the Interceptor were built, clothed with smoothly rounded aluminium bodies. Introduced in 1949, the Interceptor sold for £2257, considerably more than thte contemporary Jaguar; 88 were built before production was halted in 1957.
