The Grifo was built on a shorter version of the Rivolta chassis. It was a true two-seater. The first 414 cars had the 304 bhp 5.3 litre V-8 engine but the other 90 were fitted with a 6,996 cc V-8. The 406 bhp at 5,200 rpm of the "7 litre" was more than an answer to Ferrari to which they had no response.
