Lagonda announced its new 3 Litre Saloon in 1953. The 3 Litre came only as a 2 door saloon at first although a new 4 door saloon, similar to the old 2.6 Litre, followed in 1954. The new 3 Litre engine was capable of hauling these heavy "sports" saloons up to a top speed of 100mph, although the sporting nature was somewhat spoilt by the column change gearbox. The 3 Litre engine eventually found its way into the Aston Martin DB2/4, as had happened with the previous 2.6 Litre models.
Production of the 2 door Saloon ended in 1954 and a Mark 2 version of the 4 door, with a floor mounted gear change, was introduced. Production of the 3 Litre Saloon ended in 1958.
