Lancia did not only build cars though for the "upper ten per cent" of society. On the contrary, there were inexpensive small cars such as the 1,090 cc V-4 engine powered Appia and the Flavia, which was Lancia's first front-wheel drive car with an aluminium four-cylinder boxer engine. The 1,090 cc engine of the first 42, 429 cars produced 38 bhp at 4,800 rpm. The second series had the same size engine but this now produced a higher power output of 48 bhp. The door pillars were missing from this Lancia too, which made it easier to get into and out of.
