Hillman finally broke free from its pre-war, conservative styling in 1948 with the arrival of a new Minx family, starting with the Minx Phase III. The Minx had a new transatlantic look inspired by the designs of American stylist Raymond Loewy. Saloon, convertible and estate versions of the Minx were available to tempt buyers both at home and abroad in the more important export markets.

The 1949 Phase IV Minx used an improved 1265cc sidevalve engine and remained in production until the arrival of the Phase V model in 1951.
