In 1954 the Hillman Minx finally received its long awaited overhead valve engine, the new Minx was designated as the Phase VIII. The Minx Phase VIII introduced 15inch wheels, revised suspension and the usual trim changes. In 1956 a de luxe version, the Phase VIIIA, also joined the range featuring extra chrome and two-tone paintwork.

The new OHV four cylinder engine was available in either 1265cc or 1390cc format and gave the Minx an impressive turn-of-speed (by mid-50's standards!). Production of this the last "Phase" Minx lasted until 1957.
