This Automatic model was the only type produced during the manufacturing cycle. The ZF sourced transmission was robust with the exception of the cable that actuated gear selection. This was prone to failure. Symptoms being loss of kick down/and or drive selection. Often a new gearbox was specified, incorrectly. However a straightforward job to replace, by dropping oil pan from the transmission housing and by judicious dis-assembly, a replacement cable can be fitted. Look out for the cable end fixing, to the selector shaft.
