Italy's economy started to improve during the late fifties, increasing the demand for more expensive cars so Fiat launched their Fiat 1800 and 2100 in 1959. These models had new engines and entirely new, spacious bodies. The only difference between the two models was in the capacity of their six-cylinder engines: 1,795 cc and 2,054 cc. Two years later a larger 2,279 cc version of this latter engine appeared in the top-of-the-range Fiat 2300.
