Overview

Produced: 1951-1953, 1301 produced.
Types: Saloon, 4 doors, 4 seats

Despite already being classed as outdated by 1951 MG (part of the Nuffeild organisation, although not for much longer!) launched a revised "Y-Type" saloon, the MG YB. This "new" model looked identical to the earlier YA version, only small trim details distinguished it from the earlier cars.

Improvements to the YB were mainly mechanical, these modifications included a front anti-roll bar, revised brake shoes and a hypoid-bevel axle. The YB had a combind rear brake drum and hub (single casting) fitted onto a splined half shaft.  Performance was still rather pedestrian with a top speed of just over 70mph, handling was still good by comparison. The YB sold in steady numbers until the long awaited MG Magnette ZA arrived in 1953 to replace it.
