Introduced three years after the successful roadster version, the MGB GT made its debut in 1965. The MGB GT offered a practical 2+2 hatchback body that made it ideal for every day use and touring. The new steel body shell added 160Ibs of extra weight but this did not really blunt the MGB's healthy performance figures.
The MGB GT used a higher front windscreen to accommodate the higher roof line, a one piece tailgate offered hatchback versatility along with a small fold down rear bench seat. Standard equipment and options were similar to those found on the open roadster version. Popular options included wire wheels and an overdrive gearbox.
Along with the roadster version the MGB GT gained Mk II status in 1967 and would remain in production until the 1980's.
