The Starchief was new for the 1954 model year. The car had an eight-cylinder engine and 2 in (50 mm) longer wheelbase of 124 in (3,150 mm) instead of 122 in (3100 mm). Gear-change was by Hydra-Matic automatic. It was available as 4-door sedan (Star Chief Deluxe) or 2-door convertible (Star Chief Custom). The chrome was not spared in 1956 when the Star Chief Custom hardtop coupe was built.
