The first cars made by Colin Chapman were sold as a Lotus VI but production did not really get under way until the Seven appeared. The customers could choose between a kit or ready-to-run car. After about 3,000 had been sold, Colin Chapman sold the rights in the Seven to Caterham Cars (q.v.).
