Hillman Avenger Tiger

Overview
Produced: 1972-1973
Types: Saloon,4 doors,4 seats

An all new model from Chrysler owned Hillman made its debut in 1970, the Hillman Avenger. The Avenger was a mid-size family saloon aimed directly at the Morris Marina, Ford Escort and Vauxhall Viva, all of which were relatively new models of a similar size. As well as the usual "standard" models of the Avenger range two sporting variants, the competition bred Tiger model and an even rarer BRM version were also made available in small numbers.

The Avenger Tiger was conceived as an ideal platform for both saloon car racing and rallying which could be ordered direct from the factory as a road car. The Tiger used the four door bodyshell of the standard Avenger and was powered by a tuned 1498cc engine featuring twin-Weber carbs. Some Tigers were also supplied with 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre units, although these were true competition cars.
