The last variant of the new Jaguar sportscar range, the XK120 Drophead Coupe, arrived in 1953. The original XK120 Roadster had captured the imagination of the press and public in 1948, 5 years before the more practical Drophead Coupe became available. This elegant car offered a snug, well trimmed and equipped cockpit that did away with the draughty side-screens of the Roadster version.
The XK120 Drophead Coupe featured the same well designed mechanicals as its Fixed Head Coupe and Roadster sisters, including the excellent six cylinder XK engine, which in later versions of the XK120 could develop 180bhp. In 1954 the XK120 range was superseded by the heavier looking XK140.
