Jaguar 3.4 litre Mk I

Overview

Produced: 1957-1959, 17340 produced.
Types: Saloon, 4 doors, 4 seats

The Jaguar 2.4 Litre (Mk I) had firmly established itself by 1957 and had gained a good reputation for providing good sports saloon performance, therefore the new 3.4 Litre model looked set to being another winner. The 3.4 Litre used a larger capacity (3442cc) version of the same power plant as the 2.4 and turned this well mannered saloon into a very powerful car overnight.

The automatic had 3 gears. Early cars had drum brakes, the 1959 has 4 wheel disc. It also has 4 speed manual with a Laycock de Normanville electric overdrice mounted behind the transmissiaon with swith on the upper left facia (dash).

The 3.4 Litre was capable of reaching 120mph and from 1958 many cars came fitted with optional overdrive and disc brakes to make the most of the available power.  As with the 2.4 the 3.4 Litre came as a 4 door saloon, its bodyshell being identical to the smaller engine car, except for its different rear wheel spats.

As with the 2.4 Litre Mk I the 3.4 is often over looked in favour for the later Mk II cars and has now become a rare sight.
