As part of the new 1959 saloon range the Jaguar Mk II 2.4 litre provided the entry level for the new model line-up. The Mk II 2.4 used the new bodyshell which although similar to the previous 2.4 saloon (now known as the Mk I), now had several styling improvements. The Mk II now had a larger glass area with slender door window surrounds, new lamps and a revised interior.
The 2.4 is often unkindly referred to as being "sluggish", in reality it performed well for the period and was only shown-up against its high performance 3.4 and 3.8 siblings. The 2.4 used the same twin cam, straight six XK engine as its larger brothers, transmission choices included manual, manual overdrive, or automatic.
The 2.4 Mk II lived on until 1967 when it became the 240, which was really a pared down version of the same car.
