Undoubtedly one of the greatest saloon cars of all time appeared in 1959, the Jaguar Mk II 3.8 litre. The 3.8 saloon provided earth shattering performance (220bhp, 125mph, 0-60 in 8.5 seconds) and had a habit of embarrassing most sportscars of the day. The 3.8 Mk II used the same revised body shell and XK engine as the 2.4 and 3.4 Mk II models and was equally well equipped and finished.
The Mk II 3.8 quickly established itself as the ultimate "Q" car and found many friends on both sides of the law. No 60's bank job was complete without a 3.8 get-away-car and a pursuing Police 3.8!! The Mk II 3.8 also arrived just in time to enjoy Britains new unrestricted M1 motorway and proved to be quite happy cruising at over 100mph.
The Mk II did wonders for Jaguars reputation and helped to firmly establish its reputation as the sports saloon car manufacturer that all others should try to beat!!
