Jaguar E-type 4.2 litre Roadster

Overview

Produced: 1964-1968, 9548 produced.
Types: Sports, 2 doors

Jaguar introduced a new engine to its E-type range in 1964, the 4.2 litre version of the well proven XK engine. The 4235cc engine brought with it even more refinement, low-range torque and was more responsive in mid-range acceleration. The new car also benefited from having an all synchromesh gearbox which finally did away with the crude "Moss Box" used on the 3.8.

Visually the 4.2 E-type Roadster was the same as the old 3.8 car although it did benefit from much more substantial and comfortable seats. The E-type Roadster continued to sell well in 4.2 form, although some "purists" mourned the passing of the 3.8 engined cars.
