Jaguar introduced an improved E-type Coupe in 1964, the E-type 4.2 litre. This new 4.2 litre Coupe had a redesigned XK engine which delivered more torque than the original 3.8 unit, mid-range power was also improved. To complement the more refined 4.2 engine a new gearbox arrived to replace the crude "Moss Box" type used on earlier cars.
Apart from these mechanical changes the E-type Coupe remained largely unaltered. Despite the refinement of the 4.2, purists still prefer the original 3.8 cars, although the 4.2 E-types are today much sought after classics.
