In 1967 Jaguar launched what is often unkindly referred to as a "stripped out Mk II" the 240 saloon. The 240 and its larger engined sister the 340, used a Mk II shell with revised interior trim and external fittings. The interior featured Ambla (plastic) trim in place of leather and the bumpers were now of a much slimmer, less complicated design.
The 240 still continued to use the old Mk II 2.4 running gear and provided the same modest performance (when compared to the 3.4 and 3.8) although larger SU carbs boosted power slightly. Production of this last-of-the line Mk II ended in 1969 after the new XJ6 had firmly established itself.
