The Simca 1000 appeared as a four-door saloon in 1961 and then as a sports coupe a year later. The body was designed and built by Bertone and shipped by train to France. When 10,011 had been sold, the 1200 was introduced in 1967, with a 1,204 cc engine instead of the 944 cc motor.
