The longer booted version of the Bentley MKVI, the R-Type first appeared in 1952 and lasted until 1955. Engine capacity had grown to

4566cc and now came with standard four speed automatic transmission, although manual boxes were still available,

The R-Type Continental took care of most of the coachbuilt versions, although a number of attractive R-Type convertibles were also made.

The new boot lid design allowed an increase in luggage spacer over the MKVI, the boot lid itself was made from lighter Aluminum. Really only made as a stop gap model the R-Type was replaced in 1955 by the larger S-Type (later S1).
