Cadillac Series 62 (1946)

Overview

Produced: 1946-1946, 18566 produced.
Types: Saloon

Cadillac continues to fill the role given it by Durant in 1909 as the prestige marque of General Motors to compete with Ford's Lincoln and Chrysler's Imperial.  Increasing numbers of heads of state, industrialists and film stars bought Cadillacs.

In December 1941, the final pre-war Cadillac rolled off the production lines to be replaced two months later by the first M-5 tanks and aero engines for the American military.  Cadillac's war ended on 17 October, 1945 when they were able to restart production of private cars.  Late in 1949, the millionth car rolled off the lines and by 1956 the factory produced more than 150,000 cars in one year for the first time.

The body of the "62" was identical to the Oldsmobiles and Buicks of that year.  The V-8 engine's capacity was 5,675cc, producing 156 bhp at 3,400 rpm.
