The Saratoga and Windsor were no longer made which reduced the range to four basic models: the Newport, the 300 (which replaced the Windsor), the New Yorker and the 300 H. In addition, there was also the Imperial range.
The 300 K returned in 1964, after a one year's absence. The engines once more had increased their power. The "Short Ram" V-8 was 6,769 cc with twin quadruple chamber Carter carburettors and power of 395 bhp which made a top speed of 137 mph (220 kph) possible.
Chrysler broke through the 200,000 car barrier in 1965 for the first time with 224,061 units. The company had overtaken Cadillac and was now the tenth most important manufacturer. The cars were given new bodies with an investment by Chrysler of $300 million. The cars were longer and far more attractive than their predecessors. The Chrysler 300 gained a few more bits of chrome bright-work but that was the sum of it. This car was available with a choice of V-8 engines.
