Fiat 125 Spider Yellow SVl (1975)

Classic and Sports Car, UK

September 1998, P110

Fiat certainly made the most of its shared platform idea with the 124 based cars. In 1966 a pininfarina 124 Spider appeared with a 1438cc version of the 125's twin cam engine .The 124 Spider replaced the 1200 Cabriolet of 1959-1963 and the 1500 and 1600S built from 1960-1963. Progressively bigger engines were offered  1608cc, 1778cc and eventually 1997cc. Fiat made about 322,500 spiders before giving it to Pininfarina in 1982 who continued production with a PF badge. The 124 Spider featured a good looking two door body styled for Fiat by Pininfarina which needed little improvement throughout its long career. The car was very popular in the US where it competed with other European rivals such as the MG's and Triumphs from Britain. .
