The development was under way for a successor to the "Buckel Taunus". This made its appearance in 1952 as the Taunus 12M which had a modern monocoque body and no separate chassis yet in the base model was still powered by the old 1.2 litre side-valve engine. More than 300,000 were built of the Taunus 12M and 12M Supers, which had a 1.5 litre overhead valve engines. A "mere" 134,127 rolled off the lines of the 15M. This model could be identified by its different grille.
