Rover introduced a facelift to the P6 range in 1970 to bring it more up to date. The facelift included a matt black grille, improved interior trim and a vinyl roof option, very important in the 1970's!. A new high-performance version was also added to the range, the 3500S. The 3500S had increased power (150bhp) and a manual gearbox as standard, although an auto option was still listed.
The "S" also had subtle extra badges and Rostyle type road wheels hinted at the extra performance. The 3500 had already established itself as a favourite with the Police as a traffic car. The 3500S was obviously even better suited for this role and many Police forces quickly added them to their fleets.
