Lot 203: 1992 Maserati Bi-Turbo 2.8E Spyder

Spirit of Motoring, Coys (29 September 2005)

Presented at Modena on December 14, 1981 the anniversary date of the founding of Maserati in 1914, the Biturbo was the product of the De Tomaso group design centre. Whilst there were apparent similarities with the Merak V6, the engine was a new design supercharged with two turbo-compressors and with three valves per cylinder. Whilst released as a 2 litre in domestic markets, for tax purposes, in foreign markets the car was powered by a 2.5 litre version, designated as the export version, the same that would be used on the 425. In 1983 the range was extended with the Bi-turbo S which provided another 25 bhp and an increase in top speed. The example presented here today with a comprehensive leather document file with bills from Kent High Performance amongst others detailing works and parts supplied between 1998 and 2003, the majority of its life, and totalling nearly 39,000. The digital electric temperature controls all work and the fabled oval clock sits pride of place. The car is described as presenting in good general condition with a fresh MoT, she drives well and the hood is in excellent condition. This car is in fine fettle and with the roof down, is ready to enjoy the rest of the summer in.
