Lot 237: 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe

Spirit of Motoring, Coys (29 September 2005)

The launch of the Ford Mustang in 1964 was perhaps the greatest sensation in US motoring history. Its instant appeal generated huge demand, with production exceeding even the most optimistic expectations. The personal sports car had arrived and the Mustang legend was born. Among enthusiasts, the original 1965-66 Mustang has always been the purest and most desirable model. Its simplicity and clean lines were quickly lost as later Mustangs piled on weight and size, and by the mid 1970's the model had lost all distinction. The car offered today is among the earliest Fastback models, built in September 1965, the Fastback being the most sporting Mustang model. It was imported to the UK in 2001 and has since formed part of a small private collection in the West Country. The car has the rare and highly desirable 289 V8 engine with four-barrel carburettor together with numerous other options, always an important feature in early Mustangs, including tinted glass, centre console with T-bar shifter, front disc brakes, lighting and external trim packages. The history file shows that it has been regularly serviced with any faults attended to. Indeed, the owner is driving the car up to the sale.Finished in Rangoon Red with a matching red interior, this exceptional Mustang is ready for the road having been fully serviced in May and with an MoT expiring in June 2006. It will no doubt provide the enthusiast with many enjoyable miles at the wheel of one of the great 1960's motoring legends, offered here at No Reserve.
