Lot 255: 1957 Triumph TR3A Ex-works

Spirit of Motoring, Coys (29 September 2005)

The Triumph team cars and the car presented here today are featured in a number of books , more notably, 'Triumph TR2 and TR3 - 1952-1960' by Brooklands Books, 'Triumph Super Profile' and 'Triumph by Name' by Bill Piggott, registrar for the TR Register from 1979 to 2002 and 'TR for Triumph' by Chris Harvey where he says that VHP 529 was one of first 2138cc engined cars produced by Triumph.Presented with the car is a quantity of correspondence between the current owner and Ken Richardson, he notes that the car had a hard top but also a white soft top, as his letter dated 4th January 1990 relates. Present also is a Heritage certificate detailing dealer destination as Triumph competitions department for VHP 529, the original buff log book and current V5. The MoT expires in November 2004 and if there was any doubt about how collectible one of the few remaining works Triumph TR3A's might be, there are also letters of valuation from Coys of Kensington dated 1990 and estimating a value 45,000-50,000 and Auto Valuation & Appraisals, Kansas stating a figure at a similar level. Although there VHP529 was used by the works department in international competition as a development, support and recce vehicle, as well as being Richardson's personal transport. The car was taken to America with the current owner for a number of years and returned quite recently with all documentation in order and duties paid as well as a full years MoT. There are few works TR3A's left intact which makes this a rare opportunity to acquire a special slice of British competition history.
