Lot 343: 1979 Yamaha TX750
Bucking the trend towards multi-cylinder motorcycles, Yamaha introduced the TX750 parallel twin in 1973. Excessive vibration has long been a handicap of such engine layouts, a problem Yamaha addressed by incorporating two ‘omni-phase’ balancers in the design. A comfortable sports-tourer, the TX 750 weighed 463lbs and produced 63bhp at 6,500rpm, an output good enough for a claimed top speed of 120mph-plus. The model did not last long however and was soon superseded by the three-cylinder XS750. Restored over the last three years, this rarely encountered Yamaha TX750 boasts a professional paint job and numerous stainless-steel fittings including wheel spokes and fastenings. The machine is offered with restoration invoices, old-style logbook and Swansea V5.
