Lot 447: 1976 Harley-Davidson 1200cc Electra-Glide 1200cc
Harley-Davidson have survived and prospered by doing what they have always done best - by building wholly American, large V-twin, cruiser bikes. They have succeeded so well that the Harley- D and the sound of the Harley are instant symbols of the good ol’ USA, massively supported by a huge club and rally scene, both here and in the ‘states. However, none of their machines is more of a household name than the Electra-glide, made world-famous by the eponymous film ‘Electra-glide in Blue’, starring actor Robert Blake- but, in reality, starring his police version of the ‘glide. This sale’s beautiful example, the subject of continuous and expensive restoration and upgrading over the whole of its present ownership, is in gorgeous condition, splendidly-finished in red and white, chromed to a high degree and fitted with a whole range of appropriate performance and custom accessories, including leather bags, all by the best American makers. With a V5 for its cherished number, and an MOT to March 2006, the new owner will be able to ride away. What he won’t be able to do is remain un-noticed!
