Lot 307: 1967 Harley-Davidson 883cc Sportster

Sale of Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams & Butterfields (12 November 2005)

The evocatively titled Sportster has been a permanent feature of the Harley-Davidson line-up since its arrival in 1957. Intended to compete with the sportier British twins, the XL Sportster was leaner and meaner than previous Harleys and boasted an all-new overhead-valve v-twin engine producing 40bhp. Progressively improved and updated, the ever-popular Sportster remains Harley’s top-selling model today.

Dating from 1967, the first year of electric start on the Sportster, this Special Edition model comes with every available option, including the universal buddy seat, a total of 15 in all. We are advised that the machine is un-restored and has covered a little over 10,000 miles from new. Bill of sale and Certificate of Title documents are available.
