Lot 352: 1969 BSA 650

Auto Moto D'Epoca, Coys (19 November 2005)

For its first post-war models BSA stole a march on its rivals by patenting a new vertical twin cylinder engine with overhead valves; first seen on the 500cc A7 model of 1946, this design was to see service for many years right up until the company's demise. By 1950 the A7 models were joined by the A10 Golden Flash, its rigid frame powered by a 646cc engine. The latter was more, however, than just an enlarged A7 unit, there being numerous internal improvements as well as one piece rocker boxes and an inlet manifold that was now an integral part of the cylinder heads. 1954 saw the A10 available in 115mph Road Rocket guise with light alloy cylinder heads and increased power, largely due to raised compression ratio. For 1958 the Road Rocket was superceded by the Super Rocket, a superior and even more rapid model identifiable by full width hubs, a nacelle for the headlamp and many detail improvements. The top of the BSA range, the Super Rocket was one of the fastest motorcycles available and popular both on the road and in competition. The example offered today has been totally restored by marque specialist Sassaroli of Florence and is presented in excellent overall condition.L'esemplare proposto si presenta in perfette condizioni di conservazione, non ha mai necessitato di interventi di restauro, munita delle targhe originali, ed stata curata dal noto specialista Sassaroli di Firenze.
