Lot 362: 1964 Fiat 500D

Auto Moto D'Epoca, Coys (19 November 2005)

The Fiat 500 was a true successor to the Fiat Topolino, or 'Mickey Mouse', which had been part of the Italian culture since 1936. The bubble-like shape of the 500 had already been pioneered by the Fiat 600 in 1955, which although similar in looks was a conventional small family saloon, with a water cooled, four cylinder engine. In contrast, the 500 was almost a microcar with its aircooled vertical twin and seating for two adults only. The next major version to be released was the 'Giardiniera'. Introduced in 1960, this was an estate version, with a stretched wheelbase and a horizontally mounted engine. Later in the year the 500D was released. This brought the 499.5cc engine into general useage (rather than just in the Sport, which was discontinued) with a power output of 17.5bhp. A few other detail changes (such as a revised fuel tank) were also made. Production of the 500D contnued until 1965 when it was replaced by the 500F.The car you see here today is a very early example with suicide doors. It has been restored from the ground up. The car was sripped back to a shell, mechanics rebuilt, trim restored or replaced new. It features many brand new components and has covered only 30 kilometres since and is therefore rightly desribed by its owner as 'new'....Questo esemplare rappresenta un'opportunita' per acquistare una vettura molto divertente. La vettura e' stata sottoposta ad un restauro a regola d'arte nel 1990. Il propretario descrivi la vettura in ottime condizioni e si presenta in color bianco e gli interni bi-colori azzuro/bianco.
